Cvs Womens Prenatal Dha Vitamins & Minerals Reviews

Author Message Anonymous

I am vi weeks meaning and have been taking Womens 1 A 24-hour interval prenatal vitamins plus DHA (the DHA is in a seperate pill that came with the prenatal vitamin canteen). I only had my starting time doctors appointment this week and my dr. gave me a listing of fish I shouldn't eat. I noticed that the womens one a day DHA pill I have been taking lists a couple of different types of fish used for the DHA (including mackerel). I am wondering if it's okay to take the DHA pill even though information technology contains fish? Is anyone else taking womens one a solar day prenatal with the DHA or has anybody talked virtually this with their md?

Hopping yous all tin can calm me down and tell me this is fine!

Thank you!

Yes - the thought is that you want the Omega-3s but not the mercury that are in sure kinds of fish. There's non going to be mercury in your vitamins.

Mackerel happen to exist a type of fish that are low mercury anyhow, then you tin eat those. This website has more info and a pocket card you can go on in your wallet for seeing whether a certain type of fish is OK or non.

Fish oil in pills is mostly purified. In addition, mercury collects in the fish's muscle/meat, non in the fat/oil. The supplements, IMO, are much safer than eating real fish. Sadly.

OBs ALWAYS say not to swallow mackerel, and it's consummate misinformation.

What you want to avoid is king mackerel, and mayhap spanish mackerel. They are large predators that accumulate lots of mercury.

Smaller mackerel, similar Boston or Norwegian mackerel, are fine -- and actually some of the all-time nutrient you could eat during pregnancy! Not only incredibly, insanely high in Omega 3s, but very high in vitamin D, also.

The good thing about the supplements you're taking is that they employ the smaller mackerel, because they are cheaper and more prolific. The PP that mentioned that fish oil is purified and doesn't contain mercury is also correct. So you don't demand to worry either style.

Finally, mercury fears in the U.Southward. are a niggling overblown. I lived in Japan and women in that location chow down on all kinds of fish when they are meaning -- bluefin tuna, mackerel, salmon -- and take very healthy babies. Fish is an excellent source of lean protein, so exercise attempt to get some of information technology in your diet (Lotte and H-mart have lots of minor bluefish in stock all the fourth dimension!).

Congrats on the pregnancy!

Yes, it'south true, you demand to avoid king mackerel not regular mackerel.

BTW, non to scare y'all simply I as well purchased that prenatal & noticed that in that location is no information on the label regarding purification from mercury/ atomic number 82/ toxins, so I only take the prenatal & purchased a separate omega-three pill from a source that purifies their fish oil. I wouldn't trust that the fish oil is purified unless it'due south actually written on the bottle. Retrieve- these products are non FDA regulated, then they could really do what they want (we just hope & pray that they're scrupulous).

I only asked my OB yesterday about the effectiveness of the DHA pill that comes with the prenatal vitamins. I was getting nauseous after taking the pill and information technology was becoming a real task for me because of that. He said that the DHA pill is pretty much useless and I could toss them in the garbage. He said that there is not a lot of proof to show that they are even effective.

I take Omega - iii vitamins from fish oil and the fish used (as stated on the label) are sardines and anchovies, both very low mercury fish.

Um, has your OB kept upward with his continuing education or read an OB scientific journal lately?!? Essential fatty acids during pregnancy are disquisitional for fetal brain/ vision development. If you lot don't take supplements so you need to consume enough fatty fish, otherwise the babe leaches it from you brain. In summary, y'all don't actually have to accept the supplements, but if you want to (literally) keep your brain cells, you may want to invest in a bottle of purified omega-3 fatty acid supplements.

I too have one a mean solar day prenatal vitamins and was very concern that the fish oil tablets was also derived from mackerel, not fda approved and non stating that information technology was purified. I took it for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy and was terrified after reading that mackerel was apart of the fish oil tablets. I ask my perinatologist about this and he likewise said that these pills were over rated and I can toss them which I did. what about our parents that didn't take prenatal vitamins much less fish oil. I think its a matter of opinion and choice. Not plenty evidence to prove what we read !!!

The CVS brand prenatal + DHA is vegetarian (DHA sourced from seaweed). Good option if you're concerned about mercury.

Omg, been taking i a day with DHA since I found out I am pregnant and I am 29 weeks today. Reading this post made me worried. I thought I was taking the all-time prenatal pills not to mention that they are pricey compared to others.
